Srila Prabhupada's Quote Of The Day

January 19

We have come here to enjoy. Actually, we are not meant for enjoying. We are meant for serving. Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, jivera svarupa haya-nitya-krsna-dasa: [Cc. Madhya 20.108-109] "Our real identity is to serve, to remain under the protection..." We are always under the protection, this way or that way, but we are thinking falsely that we are free. We are not free. Krsna is taking care of us.

The idea of the communist philosophy is that the state should be benefited. But the state being imperfect, the living entities other than the human beings cannot derive any profit. It is therefore no better than the capitalists. For the benefit of the human beings, the capitalist kills the poor animals. Similarly, the communist does the same thing. Where is the difference? Perfect communism is in the Srimad-Bhagavatam wherein it is stated that you feel for the poor animals as well as the human beings. Srimad-Bhagavatam instructs that even if there is a snake or lizard in the house, it is the duty of the householder to see that they are also eating, not starving. So you have to begin your preaching with such broader idea of communism.

The king's duty is to see that everyone is following the brahminical culture. The brahmana is executing his occupational duties nicely, the ksatriyas are doing nicely in their occupational duties; similarly, vaisyas, sudras. That is the duty of the government, that everything is going on nicely. Otherwise, it will be a great concern and people will be always filled up with anxieties. There will be so many troubles and problems. We cannot solve them. And it is very difficult to solve in this age of Kali.

The absence of the idea of God is not very important, but the sense of loving God is the most important. The cowherd boys and all of the residents of Vrindaban were so much absorbed in love for Krishna that naturally there was absence of the idea of God. Yasoda was so much absorbed in love of Krishna that she did not care to know that He is God. Our whole philosophy is to increase our love for Krishna. Love with awe and veneration and love that is spontaneous is different, but still one has to learn about the greatness of Krishna.

Letter to Hamsaduta, 16 January, 1969

We can remember Krishna in every moment. We can remember Krishna while taking a glass of water because the taste of water is Krishna. We can remember Krishna as soon as we see the sunlight in the morning, because the sunlight is a reflection of Krishna's Bodily Effulgence. Similarly, as soon as we see moonlight in the evening we remember Krishna because moonlight is also reflection of sunlight. Similarly, when we hear any sound we can remember Krishna because sound is Krishna, and the most perfect sound, transcendental, is Hare Krishna, which we have to chant 24 hours. So there is no scope of forgetting Krishna at any moment of our life provided we practice in that way.

Letter to Hayagriva, 15 January, 1968

There are different kinds of faith, but in Krsna consciousness the preliminary condition of faith is to believe that simply by serving Krsna, everything will be complete.

You cannot find in the history of the world, five thousand years ago, who appeared and still famous. You don't find. There is not a single instance within the human history. But Kåñëa, He appeared five thousand years ago, during the Battle of Kuruksetra, before that, and still He's famous. Not only famous in India, but He's famous all over the world. In each, every language, the "Krsna" word is there, dictionary. He's also stated as "Hindu God." But Krsna is not Hindu god or Muslim God. He's God. God is neither Hindu nor Muslim nor Christian. God is God. So Krsna is Bhagavan. Svayam Bhagavan.

Lecture on Bhagavad-gita 7.1, Bombay, January 13, 1973

We shall never use this artificial fertilizer on our farms. It is forbidden in the sastras. If you plant easily grown crops once in the year, then the earth will not become exhausted. Don't overuse the land.

Letter to Rupanuga, 11 January, 1976

There is no question of taxing someone for a donation. They can give donation and we will accept on friendly terms. Nobody should be pressured for contribution.
