Srila Prabhupada's Quote Of The Day

September 21

Maya-mohita-cetasah means averse to Krsna. I want everything except Krsna. That is maya-mohita-cetasah. I want everything, but except Krsna. That is my missing point. Because we are rascals, fools, we do not know what we should want. Na te viduh svartha-gatim hi visnum [SB 7.5.31]. He does not know that his actual want is Krsna. Just like a small child crying, and we are trying to pacify him, giving this, giving that. But he's crying, crying. Because his actual want is his mother. And as soon the mother comes, takes the child on the lap, immediately he stops. Similarly, we want Krsna because we are part and parcel of Krsna. That we want.

Five thousand years ago Krsna said, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja: [Bg. 18.66] "You give up all other religious principles. Simply surrender unto Me." We are preaching the same thing. No change. There is no possibility of change. Then how Krsna is authority? So change means imperfect knowledge. You will find that one who is very experienced medical practitioner, he gives you a prescription, and you visit him again and again, he gives you the same prescription unless you are cured. His prescription is so nice that he doesn't change. But a nonexperienced physician, every time you go, he will change the prescription. But actually, those who are experienced, he knows "This is the disease, and ultimately this medicine will cure. So let him repeat that medicine." So our is that platform.

My predecessors, Vaisnavas, they were so generous that they felt very much afflicted for the suffering of the human society. Sri Rupa Goswami tried to elevate them to real path of happiness by introducing this Govinda Ganamrta, the Nectarine of the Songs of Govinda. That will make them happy.

This sankirtana or street chanting must go on, it is our most important program. Lord Caitanya's movement means the sankirtana movement. You may simply take two hours for chanting sixteen rounds daily, two hours for reading congregationally, and balance of time go out for sankirtana. We must do both, reading books and distributing books, but distributing books is the main propaganda. Reading in class for two hours is sufficient and other reading can be done in spare time if one has got it, it is not that one has to be always reading. One hour a morning for Bhagavata class and one hour evening, either Bhagavad-gita or Nectar of Devotion, that is sufficient.

If one does not become Krsna conscious, his so-called success in this material world or failure, they have no value. Rather, if by sentiment somebody comes to Krsna consciousness and if for a few days he chants Hare Krsna mantra, their success, in future at least, guaranteed. So it is so nice thing. If you neglectfully chant, still there is success, but it will take some time. And if you chant very carefully, following the rules and regulations, then your success in this life is guaranteed. So we can make our choice, because always Krsna gives us the chance to make our choice.

Vinasas tasya vidyate. Na vinasa. Vinasa means annihilation. So he has no annihilation. What is annihilation? We have understood from Bhagavad-gita in the Second Chapter that soul is never annihilated. Indestructible. Now how it is said that vinasa? Vinasa means when we are in the whirlpool of this material transmigration of soul from one body to another and we do not know where we are going. Either we are going, I am going to become an elephant or I'm going to become an ant, I do not know. After leaving this body, I'm in the wilderness of different species of life. So I forget myself. I forget myself. That is called vinasa. Vinasa means that living entity is not annihilated but he does not know where I am.

Now whatever condition it may be I advise you to take rock candy as much as possible always keep a piece in your mouth. So far as eating is concerned, take ripe papaya as much as you can, also if possible boil green papaya, this will be your diet and medicine. Besides this take sufficient rest and chant Hare Krishna; so long as we have got this material body we have to undergo these situations, if we increase our love for Krishna we shall be able to get out of this maya. People who therefore not exerting to improve Krishna Consciousness are simply wasting there valuable time and human life. Their human life is a chance to be out of the entanglements of material bodies.

If we want to control the mind, then we have to adopt these regulative principles of life. Not that we have to give up, but we have to make regulated. Vairagya. Then it will be possible to adopt. And the best thing is that engage your mind always in Krsna consciousness. We are trying to engage our students twenty-four hours either in this way or that way, this way or that way, in Krsna consciousness. That is samadhi, trance, transcendental situation. You can eat, you can enjoy, you can dance, you can see, you can work - all things for Krsna consciousness. That will automatically make you renounced order of life. But if you try to follow this yoga system which was possible in the Satya-yuga some millions of years before, and if you want to adopt that, oh, it is not possible.

I am combination of matter and spirit; so far my body is concerned, there is division. But when I come to Krsna consciousness, it is not like that. That is simply for everyone. Either he's externally a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, American, Indian, black, white, it doesn't matter. That is bodily. When you come to the spiritual platform, that is one. Because spirit is one... Then the business is also one - to serve Krsna; that is spiritual.

You have fallen in this condition because you have forgotten Krsna. Just like last night so many people came to discuss with us, but they are not interested in talking of Krsna. They are interested how their sense gratification will be disturbed by starting this temple. That is their concern. Here we have come to preach about Krsna. They did not ask anything about Krsna, "What is this philosophy? What is this Krsna's philosophy?" No. They are simply interested in their own sense gratification. That's all. How their sense gratification will be disturbed - they are concerned in that way. This is the position of the material world. Everyone is simply interested in sense gratification. That's all. There is no question of asking "What is God? What I am? What is this world?" Actually, these should be the questions of human life.
