Srila Prabhupada's Quote Of The Day

August 2

You are in Krsna consciousness, studying, of course, so many books. Have you found anyone who is greater than Krsna or equal to Krsna? No. We can find one greater than... Radharani is greater than Krsna. (laughter) Yes. That is out of love. Actually, Radharani's also lesser than Krsna. She's dasi, maidservant. She's always thinking how She shall be perfect dasi. Krsna sometimes makes Radharani greater than Him. That does not mean Radharani thinks like that. Radharani always thinks, "How I shall become perfect maidservant of Krsna?" That is the real position, everyone. In the Caitanya-caritamrta you'll find how everyone is thinking of servant of Krsna. That is our real position. But Krsna sometimes elevates some of His devotees.

For brahmana it is not compulsory to marry. Ksatriyas may marry more than one wife. They can take. So all girls must be married. They must have one husband, even the husband has got fifty wives. Then the problem of girls' marriage will be solved. And as soon as one girl is pregnant, she should be separated at least for one and half years.

The Rathayatra Festival was very successful in San Francisco. I shall send you later on the reprint pictures published in the local newspapers, and you will be glad to learn that about 10,000 people participated in this function. The procession was taken along about an 8 mile distance, and the people followed all through, simply chanting the Hare Krishna Mantra. This was a unique scene in this part of the world. Some of the Christian-minded people became almost envious, and I have received some anonymous letters. Maybe as our movement increases in volume the orthodox section of Christianity may be envious of our successful march. I think you should collect some information from the Bible that Sankirtana, chanting of the Holy Names of God, is recommended there also.

You have asked the question, "What is the difference between a Mayavadi philosopher and a Krishna Conscious person?'' The answer is that the Mayavadi philosopher has only imperfect knowledge of God, whereas the Krishna Conscious person can understand Krishna fully. The example is given that a person may know about the sunlight, but that does not mean that he knows about the Sun God within the Sun planet. Within the Sun there is a Sun God, named Vivaswan, and his body and the bodies of the other inhabitants are made of fire. It is the heat from these fiery bodies that gives warmth and light to this universe. So if someone knows something about the sunlight, it does not mean that he has knowledge about Vivaswan.

Subhadra is yogamaya. The spiritual energy is called yogamaya. And she has 16 different expansions. Out of these 16 expansions, Subhadra is one. The mahamaya of the material energy is also expansion of the energy of yogamaya; and both yogamaya and mahamaya are equally important to Krishna as much as any government department is equally important for functioning of the government.

Formerly the girl would be married to a suitable boy at a very early age, say six years old. But although a girl was married early she did not stay with her husband immediately, but was gradually trained in so many ways how to cook, clean and serve her husband in so many ways - up until the time of her puberty. So all the time there was no anxiety because a girl would know - I have got a husband, and the boy would know I have got this girl as my wife. Therefore when the boy and girl would come of age there was no chance of illicit sex-life.

So at the present moment, there is no real family life, no consideration of religion, no consideration of irreligious life. Everything, just like animals. Kalau sudra-sambhavah. If not animals, they are all sudras, nobody brahmana, nobody ksatriya, nobody vaisya. So it is a chaotic condition of the human society. Therefore it cannot be revived to the original position of systematic institutional position. It is not possible. Everything is lost. Therefore by the Caitanya Mahaprabhu's grace, one thing: harer nama harer nama / harer namaiva kevalam / kalau nasty eva nasty eva / (nasty eva) gatir anyatha [Cc. Adi 17.21]. Everything is lost. Now, simply by chanting harer nama, the holy name of Lord Krsna, you become again situated in the original position. Everything is adjusted because it is transcendental. So there is no other way.

Regarding your question why does the moon appear in pictures of Krsna yet the abode of Krsna is described as having no need of sunlight or moonlight, the answer is that these pictures show Krsna as He appeared in Vrndavana 5,000 years ago. It may be understood therefore that it is the moon of this world which is seen along with Krsna in these pictures.

Actually, the whole world requires to understand the Bhagavad-gita As It Is. Although the Bhagavad-gita is a very popular book, widely read all over the world, unfortunately unscrupulous sannyasis and yogis presented the gospel in a perverted way so that people could not come to become a devotee of Krishna, instead they have become impersonalists. This infectious disease is spread in India, especially by the Mayavadis sannyasis and philosophers, therefore we have got greater task in India then in the western countries. In the western countries they have lost practically any religious system, and Christianity is declining.

Grhastha means to live with wife and children, and cultivating spiritual life. That is called grhastha. It doesn't matter, you live with your wife and children, or you live with brahmacari, sannyasi. Anything. It doesn't matter. Therefore there are so many divisions of life. Whichever status of life is suitable for you, you can accept. Brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa asrama. Asrama, when the word is added, asrama, that means it has got reference with cultivation of spiritual life. So grhastha-asrama. One can live at home with wife and children, but the business should be Krsna consciousness. We don't accept the Mayavadi sannyasi because there is no Krsna consciousness.
